Roku {Review & Giveaway}

8.01.2009 678 comments

Let me start by saying, Roku is a MUST HAVE for any serious Netflix customer or anyone that downloads Amazon movies religiously, such as myself. The Roku has made going through my excessive Netflix queue a much easier, not to mention enjoyable process. Before the Roku, the fiance and myself were huddled in front of my laptop watching the "instant" movies and television shows, having to move the cursor every two minutes so my screen wouldn't fade to black. Being able to watch my "instant" shows on my television has been a great experience! I now get more work done since I'm not watching videos on my laptop. :)

The Roku is a small device which fits next to my television nicely. There are no buttons on the device itself, so I can see there being problems in the future if we lose the tiny remote it comes with. That being said, we are being extremely careful so we don't have to look into replacing the remote. Hooking up the Roku and making my Netflix and Amazon accounts work on it, was EXTREMELY easy. I never had to ask my fiance for any help!

Also, before I owned the Roku I didn't know much about Amazon Movies on Demand, really other than the fact that it existed. I was impressed by the selection and the prices! I am addicted to the ninety-nine cent indie movie rentals section. I even saw some movies I could purchase for only six or seven dollars. On the downside, some of my favorite television shows are two dollars per episode. Ouch!

The Roku is hooked up to the internet, so on rare occasions I have had a message pop-up saying I was no longer connected but this was an issue with my internet, not the device. I am completely impressed with the graphics and audio. The Roku gave me the option to watch in HD (I have an HD television). Watching movies on my laptop instantly sometimes caused the graphics and audio to be out of sync, which is something the Roku seems to have made extinct.

While the options to watch on Netflix is limited (about 12,000), it is FREE to watch as many "instant play" titles as you like with the $8.95 subscription which also allows to have an unlimited amount of one DVD at a time rentals! SWEEEEEET!!! Also, there are 40,000 additional titles available on Amazon.

One of my readers now has the opportunity to win a Roku ($99.99 value) of their own!

    I never tire of the Matrix or Point Break>> I think it has something to do with Keanu Reeves. BUT there was this strange little Australian movie from the early eighties that does it for me (no one will know this movie) "Phar Lap" It is a true story about an incredible Australian race horse and the young man who loved him, It has more heart then any movie I have ever seen. It is a treat worth finding. Thank you for asking and allowing me to share. And thank you for the chance to win a Roku!!!
