Delgo {Review & Giveaway}

"When a rebellious boy forms a forbidden friendship with a spunky princess, hostilities between their two kingdoms escalate, setting the stage for an exiled Empress to exact her revenge in Delgo, debuting on DVD August 4 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Starring a talented voice cast including Freddie Prinze Jr. (Scooby Doo), Jennifer Love Hewitt (“Ghost Whisperer”), Val Kilmer (The Doors), Chris Kattan (“Saturday Night Live”), Kelly Ripa (“Live with Regis and Kelly”), Anne Bancroft (The Graduate) in her final film appearance, Lou Gossett Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman) and Burt Reynolds (Smokey and the Bandit) among others, Delgo takes place in a magical world where two civilizations, divided by fear, and two hearts, guided by love, have one chance to save their world."

My Take On It!

This movie kept my almost-one year old glued to the screen, with its colorful animation and action scenes. For me, it was nice to hear the voices of familiar actors and actresses, such as Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as the very popular Eric Idle who was not mentioned above. The cast is one of the best things about this film.

Delgo seems to be a combination of Shrek (one of my son's favorite movies, no wonder he likes it) and Romeo and Juliet. It is similar to Shrek because it features a couple from two different worlds, who are different species. Also, the animation is similar to Shrek's. And of course, it is similar to Romeo and Juliet because the romance is forbidden, by their kingdoms, not their families.

All in all, Delgo was a pleaser for my baby boy...I wasn't all that impressed. Then again, there aren't many cartoons I like. If you have a Shrek fan in your house, I would recommend this film to them. Please view the Delgo trailer below to see if this movie would be of interest to your family.
