Weekly Worth a Listen - Childhood Memories

[ 9.22.2009 | 3 comments ]
I was born in '88, so most of my songs will be your typical songs from the nineties. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I actually had good taste in music. Other songs are what I would hear at my Aunt and Uncle's when they would take care of me. Don't forget to add your post to the Mister Linky below, as well as the one at Ordinary and Awesome.

001. Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor

There is actually video of me dancing to this song when I am 2 or 3...and then telling my aunt and uncle that I don't know how to dance. Darn, I was cute! :D

002. My Ding-A-Ling - Chuck Berry

003. My Baby Don't Love Me No More - The Carter Sisters

004. Istanbul - The Four Lads

005. Mister Sandman - The Chordettes

006. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler

007. You're The One That I Want - Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta

008. 2 Become 1 - Spice Girls

009. MMMBop - Hanson

010. Baby...One More Time - Britney Spears

Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison

I received this CD a couple of months ago and was astonished by how many "famous" songs were written by George Harrison. I never even realized he wrote any songs at all. My favorite track is the first on the album, "Got My Mind Set On You". It's a great song to wash dishes to. Apparently, while Harrison was in the Beatles, he wrote "Something", "Here Comes the Sun", and my personal favorite, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I respect this Beatles member a ton more, now that I know what songs he has penned.

These are all solo recordings of Harrison's work. I love the fact that there are many (nineteen) tracks to show the diversity of Harrison's tunes. His music is beautiful whether he is solo, a part of The Beatles, or a member of another of my favorite bands, The Traveling Wilburys.

Track Listing:

* Got My Mind Set On You (from Cloud Nine, 1987)
* Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth) (from Living In The Material World, 1972)
* The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll) (from All Things Must Pass, 1970)
* My Sweet Lord (from All Things Must Pass, 1970)
* While My Guitar Gently Weeps (from Concert For Bangladesh Soundtrack, 1971)
* All Things Must Pass (from All Things Must Pass, 1970)
* Any Road (from Brainwashed, 2002)
* This Is Love (from Cloud Nine, 1987)
* All Those Years Ago (from Somewhere In England, 1981)
* Marwa Blues (from Brainwashed, 2002)
* What Is Life (from All Things Must Pass, 1970)
* Rising Sun (from Brainwashed, 2002)
* When We Was Fab (from Cloud Nine, 1987)
* Something (from Concert For Bangladesh Soundtrack, 1971)
* Blow Away (from George Harrison, 1979)
* Cheer Down (from Lethal Weapon 2)
* Here Comes The Sun (from Concert For Bangladesh Soundtrack, 1971)
* I Don't Want To Do It (from Porkys Revenge soundtrack, 1984)
* Isn't It A Pity (from All Things Must Pass, 1970)

Funny People Soundtrack

The Funny People Soundtrack features 3 out of 4 of The Beatles, as well as Adam Sandler's moving cover of their song, "Real Love" (this cover seriously brought tears to my eyes and was totally different from anything else Sandler has done musically). Speaking of moving, Judd Apatow (the director of the film) and Leslie Mann's (leading female actress in Funny People) daughter did a beautiful rendition of "Memory" from Cats. She has quite the pair of lungs for someone so young, and she really pours her heart into the song.

As a huge Jason Schwartzman (formerly of Phantom Planet) fan, I was excited to see his newest band (Coconut Records) on the tracklist. The song did not disappoint either, just lovely. The CD also features popular artists such as James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Warren Zevon and Robert Plant.

This album is definitely on my top 10 list of favorite soundtracks of all time. There is only one song I did not like and that was Adam Sandler's "George Simmons Soon Will Be Gone", but I can see being swayed into liking it once I actually see the movie and watch him perform it in a scene.

Imagine That Soundtrack

Upon hearing this CD, my first reaction was, "Didn't Across the Universe just make this soundtrack like a year ago?" I'm pretty sure all 11 tracks are Beatles songs performed by today's artists such as Tyler Hilton, Colbie Caillat, Landon Pigg, Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, as well as a few others.

I love Tyler Hilton's music...okay, I love Tyler Hilton. Period. So, my obvious favorite track on the CD is his version of "I'm Looking Through You". Colbie Cailatt's rendition of "Here Comes the Sun" was also cute, to say the least. Her voice just really fits the song.

So, while I feel the CD could have been a bit more original and not used Beatles covers, how can it be a bad thing when artists are paying tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time?

So, what purchase will you be making to celebrate worldwide Beatles day?

I am SOOOO Excited...

[ 9.08.2009 | 2 comments ]

And I just can't hide it! No, but, seriously, I am BEYOND excited for the release of '9' which is hitting movie theaters TOMORROW. I first saw the trailer for this movie, when my fiance and I watched 'Coraline' in the movie theater earlier this year. We both looked at eachother in awe, and have been anticipating the release of the movie ever since. We, my fiance especially, are the biggest Tim Burton freaks out there, and even though he only produced this film, you can definitely see his involvement during trailers for the film. Have you not heard much, or (gasp) anything, about '9' yet? Check out the trailer, fun videos and blurb below, to learn more about this movie I am dying to see.

A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman.

When 9 (The Lord of the Ring’s Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Adventureland {DVD Review}

Synopsis: The most hilariously awful job in the world turns into the most unforgettable summer of a young man’s life in Adventureland, coming to Blu-ray™ Hi-Def and DVD from Miramax Films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Director Greg Mottola follows up his runaway hit comedy Superbad with an irreverent and insightful look back at the summer of 1987 and that last bittersweet moment between college and the “real world.” Available in Two-Disc Blu-ray™ Hi-Def, Two-Disc DVD and Single-Disc DVD, Adventureland will keep viewers in stitches long after the summer is past with its outrageous comedy and array of “funtastic” bonus features. The Blu-ray™ Hi-Def edition also includes a Digital Copy of the movie that can be viewed on an array of electronic devices.

The film boasts a fresh young cast with impeccable comedy pedigrees including Jesse Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale), Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Martin Starr (Knocked Up), Bill Hader (Tropic Thunder), Kristen Wiig (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Its irresistible vintage soundtrack rolls back time more than two decades with great ‘80s pop songs by iconic music acts of the era, including The Cure, David Bowie, Crowded House, INXS, Lou Reed and more.

My Take On It:

For those that liked Superbad, Adventureland would be an obvious favorite among this crowd. Not only does it have the same director, but much of the humor is the same, although I feel that Adventureland is toned down a bit in comparison to Superbad.

Even though the movie "boasts a fresh young cast", I think they would have been better off sticking Michael Cera in the lead role again. The main character is very much the same, as far as humor and mannerisms go, as the character he plays in Superbad, as well as most movies on Cera's resume. I really feel that if the cast were changed around a bit, Adventureland could have been a sequel to Superbad. I was extremely excited about the castings of Martin Starr and Ryan Reynolds though and wouldn't want them off the cast at all!

The soundtrack is awesome. I know some of the artists are listed above, in the synopsis. The movie takes place in the 80s, so it is full of some of the more popular songs during that time and some of the not-so-popular, but amazing, thanks to the mixtapes made by the two main characters. I just love when mixtapes are brought up in movies. It brings back happy memories. :)

Adventureland is available in stores where DVDs and Blu-rays are sold and can be purchased on Amazon for less than twelve dollars right now. View the trailer below to learn more about Adventureland.

New CBS Series - Three Rivers

[ 9.04.2009 | 2 comments ]
“THREE RIVERS is a medical drama that goes inside the emotionally complex lives of organ donors, the recipients and the surgeons at the preeminent transplant hospital in the country where every moment counts. However, dealing with donor families in their darkest hour and managing the fears and concerns of apprehensive recipients takes much more than just a sharp scalpel. Leading the elite team is Dr. Andy Yablonski (Alex O’Loughlin), the highly-skilled workaholic lead organ transplant surgeon, whose good-natured personality and sarcastic wit makes him popular with his patients and colleagues. His colleagues include Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), a surgical fellow with a rebellious streak and fiery temper who strives to live up to her deceased father’s excellent surgical reputation; Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), a womanizing surgical resident who’s broken as many hearts as he’s replaced; Ryan Abbott (Christopher J. Hanke), the inexperienced new transplant coordinator who arranges the intricately choreographed process of quickly and carefully transporting organs from donor to patient; Dr. Sophia Jordan, the head of surgery and a dedicated medical professional; and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s no-nonsense operating assistant and best friend. In this high stakes arena, in which every case is a race against the clock, these tenacious surgeons and medical professionals are the last hope for their patients.”

Three Rivers seems like it could be a success, as well, taking a different path in the medical drama genre, by telling a story from three different angles in each episode. Each organ donation story will share the perspective of the doctor, donor and patient.

Premieres: Sunday, October 4th at 8:00 PM CST
